AquaTest NO2 from ELOS is a test for measuring Nitrites in marine or freshwater aquaria

In the normal biological filtration process where nitrifying bacteria transform by-products from fish, via the nitrogen cycle, there are several steps in the transformation of ammonia into nitrate.

In the first step, Nitrosomonas bacteria convert ammonia into nitrite, which is highly toxic to fish and invertebrates. In a second step, another type of bacteria - Nitrobacter - convert nitrite into nitrate (NO2 to NO3). You can find the relevant Elos AquaTest NO3 here.

Invertebrates, and fish, cannot tolerate nitrite (NO2) at all. It is therefore of paramount importance, especially for marine aquaria populated with invertebrates, to keep this parameter under constant control.

In freshwater as well as marine aquaria, the maximum nitrite level should be below 0.1 mg/l.

The ELOS AquaTest NO2, specially developed for aquaria, enables the NO2 value to be checked easily and accurately through the use of a very precise reagent and an accurate colorimetric scale that adjusts to nitrite concentration between 0 - 2 mg/l.
