The densimeter is an indispensable tool for any marine aquarist, one of the first accessories to be purchased along with the aquarium.

A densimeter is that instrument capable of measuring the salt content of water, in the form of NaCl, a fundamental parameter of marine systems.

A refractometer is an instrument that through the refractive index of a substance or is able to estimate the concentration of NaCl. The refraction method is simple and consistent, which is why it is used in so many different fields of application.

With the refractometer densimeter, you can easily, and quickly determine the salt content in an aquarium, as well as the specific gravity (S. G.) with extreme accuracy.

The refractometer can be used to measure fresh, brackish or seawater and through NaCl concentration.

The operation of refractometers is based on the refraction of light. In this phenomenon, when light passes from one medium to another it undergoes an alteration, which allows--being constant--concentrations to be measured. The light ends up on the primsa, which sends back the deviation undergone by the light, on the scale calibrated at 20 °C. The measurements reported will be considered at this temperature.

When calibrating the instrument, make sure the water has this tempertaura (20 °C)
