AquaTest NH3/4 from ELOS is a test for measuring Ammonia in marine or freshwater aquaria

By-products from the metabolism of fish, corals and invertebrates consist mainly of ammonia (NH3), which is excreted into the water and becomes detectable with AquaTest NH3/4 from ELOS.

Thanks to the process known as the nitrogen cycle that takes place in biological filters, nitrifying bacteria convert ammonium or ammonia (NH3 - NH4) into nitrite (NO2), and subsequently other bacteria convert nitrite into the less harmful nitrate (NO3).

Ammonia (NH3) is toxic to corals and invertebrates as well as most fish and causes stress even at very low concentrations. It is essential that the nitrogen cycle is established and functions perfectly in any biological filter.

In freshwater aquaria, the maximum ammonia level should be less than 0.1 mg/l (some fish tolerate levels close to 0.5 mg/l although it is best never to reach this level), which will be reduced to 0.05 mg/l in marine aquaria, a level that is practically unmeasurable by droplet colourimetric tests.

The AquaTest NH3/4 from ELOS makes it easy to check the NH4+ (ammonium) value and consequently, through the use of the conversion table, the ammonia concentration (NH3) at different temperatures and pH values.
