PRODAC VEGETABLE FLAKES is a flake food designed to meet the dietary needs of herbivorous tropical freshwater fish because it contains a high percentage of vegetable meals.

PRODAC VEGETABLE FLAKES is supplemented with several nutrients of high biological value with important effects on fish health

  • Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids
  • Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis)
  • Aloe vera
  • Vitamins

FATTY ACIDS IN THE DIET OF AQUARIUM FISH

Omega 3 fatty acids. Also called PUFA - 3, these are essential polyunsaturated fatty acids in fish and can be taken up through feeding with PRODAC feeds. For freshwater fish, linolenic acid is of particular importance, and for marine fish, eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids. Carnivorous fish have greater needs than herbivorous fish because of metabolic differences. Omega-3 fatty acids are very important for the stability of cell membranes, making them more fluid even at low body temperatures (fish are "cold-blooded" animals). They also carry out anti-inflammatory action and to a small extent are used to produce metabolic energy. They also promote proper development of eggs, embryos and fry. Signs of deficiency are: abnormal coloration, fin erosion, liver damage, abnormal body development.
Omega-6 fatty acids.

These are plant-derived polyunsaturated fatty acids that are essential for fish (they can only be taken in through food). The most important for the fish body are arachidonic acid and linoleic acid. Omega-6 fatty acids are involved in numerous metabolic pathways: activation of the inflammatory response, maintenance of body lipid films, cellular signaling, and activation of enzymes. They promote proper immune response in case of infection. Signs of deficiency are: abnormal body development, vulnerability to infection, epidermal changes.

SPIRULINA
The term Spirulina, in animal feed, refers to the dry extract of Arthrospira platensis, which is highly digestible (up to 80%) and particularly rich in protein (60%) and thus in essential amino acids easily assimilated by fish.

Spirulina dry extract is also rich in vitamins (e.g., Vitamin A, B, E) and biologically active compounds such as phycocyanobilin. The lipid component (about 7%) contains many essential fatty acids for fish, such as Omega 6.

Spirulina is also rich in carotenoids, especially yellow-orange carotenoids such as canthaxanthin that stimulate yellow and orange hues in fish livery.

In order for the beneficial action to take place, it is important for fish to take spirulina derivatives several times a week and in small, consistent amounts.

ALOE VERA.

Aloe Vera is a succulent rosette plant of African origin, now widespread in many tropical and subtropical regions of the planet. The pulp of the leaves contains more than 70 biologically active molecules in the form of mucilaginous gel and latex: vitamins, polysaccharides, fatty acids, minerals, and many other important compounds.

Many of them have prebiotic action, that is, they stimulate the growth of intestinal bacterial flora that keeps the digestive system healthy.

On fish, acemannan, a polysaccharide in Aloe extract capable of stimulating body growth, resistance to infection, appetite, and immune cell production, is particularly effective. It probably also stimulates sexual maturation.

For the prebiotic action to take place, it is important that fish take Aloe derivatives several times a week and in consistent amounts.

VITAMINS IN THE DIET OF AQUARIUM FISH

- Vitamin A. Also called Retinol, it is a fat-soluble vitamin, meaning it can be stored in the fatty tissues and liver of animals and released into the body when needed.
Vitamin A in fish promotes proper renewal of epithelial tissues and proper functioning of visual processes, as well as regulating body development and antioxidant activity. Signs of deficiency are exophthalmia (swollen and bulging eyes),  depigmentation, corneal opacity, anorexia and edema, reduced growth.

- Vitamin C. L-Ascorbic Acid is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential in fish (it cannot be synthesized in the body) and is not accumulated in body tissues: therefore, fish require constant supplies of Vitamin C using PRODAC feeds. This is one of the most important vitamins: in fish it has antioxidant and immune-stimulating functions, but it also promotes proper muscle development, wound healing, and bone growth.

- Vitamin D3. Cholecalciferol, the correct name for Vitamin D3, is a fat-soluble pro-hormone that acts in animals as a modulator of Calcium and Phosphate absorption in the intestines, and regulates their functions in the body. It also regulates the synthesis of parathyroid hormones. It is an essential vitamin, taken up by fish with Prodac feed and accumulated in the liver and fatty tissues. Vitamin D3 deficiency results in rickets, reduced muscle development and bone deformities.

- Vitamin E. Alpha-tocopherol is an essential fat-soluble vitamin that is accumulated by fish mainly in the liver and is taken up exclusively with food. It is one of the most powerful antioxidants that in fish also regulates the function and stability of cell membranes and the production of sex hormones responsible for reproduction. It is also involved in the immune response

As a very important regulator. Vitamin E and Vitamin A are particularly related, as the former prevents oxidation of the latter. Signs of Vitamin E deficiency are anemia, liver degeneration, ascites, heart muscle and red blood cell damage, growth retardation, reduced reproductive activity.
